About Jane
I have had a love affair with fabric all of my life. My grandmother taught me to sew at a young age and I would design and make some of my own clothes. I remember making a crocheted vest at 11 and shortly after was knitting and designing my own sweaters. I learned to spin and tapestry weave with my mother whilst in high school. At 18 I went to college in Carlisle, England and studied Textile Design majoring in weaving. My first real job was working for Laura Ashley in one of their factories that produced clothing.
Jane Haworth is a British born quilt artist and teacher living in Auburn, California. Teaching both adults and children sewing arts, she encourages her students to break out of their comfort zone and create something new. Jane has been sewing and crafting all her life and has been making fabric collage for over 15 years, often inspired by photos from nature. Her most recent work featuring pet portraits has been featured on Quilting Arts TV and in Quilting Arts magazine, where it was used as the cover art. She is a member of Artistic Alchemy, a small group of creatives who host an annual textile retreat at Lake Tahoe and can be found teaching workshops at quilt guilds around the country, IQF Houston, and Craft Napa.
"I have been teaching fabric collage for about five years now. I started with human faces, but really Love of Pets is my most popular class. I think it's because people are more invested in working on a personal project, and staring at their pet's face all day long makes them happy."
